Geingob to attend AU extraordinary session in Ethiopia

WINDHOEK, 16 NOV (NAMPA) – President Hage Geingob is expected to participate in an extraordinary session of the African Union (AU) Assembly, taking place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from Saturday to Sunday.
The purpose of the Extraordinary Session, according to a media release issued by State House on Thursday, is to consider reform proposals of the AU in different domains, inclusive of the AU Commission reform and member state funding of the commission’s activities.
“Division of labour between member states, the AU Commission, organs and offices, regional economic communities (RECs), regional mechanisms and other continental organisations will also form part of the discussions during the session,' the statement added.
Additionally, Geingob, in his capacity as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) will, on the margins of the AU session, convene a working dinner of SADC Heads of States and governments to discuss common positions on the AU reforms and other matters pertaining to the region on Friday.
Geingob departs Windhoek on Friday and is expected to return on Sunday.
