WINDHOEK, 13 NOV (NAMPA) – As the 2019 national elections are approaching, the Secretary-General (SG) of Swapo, Sophia Shaningwa called on members to be united in order for the party to keep ruling the country.
Addressing a media briefing in the capital on Tuesday, the SG said 2019 will be a year when the party will be faced by the opposition.
“We cannot go into a year of national elections with Swapo members that are divided,” she said.
Shaningwa particularly made reference to the party’s rallies which were held prior to the sixth ordinary congress last year, where divisions were formed after the formation of ‘Team Harambee’ and ‘Team Swapo’.
“We just came from the sixth ordinary congress where some of our comrades lost peace and harmony. As Swapo Party members, whatever and whoever candidate you have ever supported, after the congress of our party, when we have a leadership in place we have to rally behind those leaders,” she stressed.
Despite the fights and divisions, after the congress, the SG stressed that members should reassemble and embrace one another for the sake of Swapo.
“And therefore as we are moving forward, I do not want to hear anymore Team Harambee, I do not want to hear anymore Team Swapo. We are all members of this great Swapo Party,” Shaningwa said.
