KEETMANSHOOP, 13 NOV (NAMPA) – Around 50 youth from the //Kharas and Hardap regions on Tuesday attended the regional consultative engagement for the draft of the third National Youth Policy (NYP) at Keetmanshoop.
Speaking to Nampa at the meeting, Lysias Haiduwa, chief officer of youth development programmes in the Ministry of Sports, Youth and National Service said the objective of the meeting was to collect data from the regional representatives that will be included in the third NYP.
“We understand that regional challenges differ. It is of importance that the pillars and interventions are presented to the region in order to have a collective understanding of the information that will potentially comprise the NYP,” he said.
The meeting was held under the theme ‘Mainstreaming youth and development into the national agenda’.
The second NYP was formed under four pillars - education and skills development, youth health and wellbeing, youth empowerment and economic empowerment and youth political and civic participation.
Haiduwa said the meeting was to evaluate the content of the second NYP, revise it and determine what it does not address to develop the third policy.
He commended the youth for their interest, participation and input.
Haiduwa further said during the meeting the youth focus more on the areas of education, training and economic matters as they want to be included in the mainstream economy.
“They want to see them having education systems that prepare them for the market and be productive citizens of this country,” he said.
Similar meetings will be held in the other 13 regions of the country.
