REHOBOTH, 13 NOV (NAMPA) – A woman arrested for the alleged kidnapping of a two-month-old boy on Sunday made her first appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Her case was postponed to 13 December to allow her to apply for legal aid and for further police investigations.
Sharon Kaenjerewandu, 24, appeared before Magistrate Desire Kamboua on a count of kidnapping.
It is alleged that Kaenjerewandu on Sunday, near Rehoboth’s Block E residential area, took Hendrick Jagger without his parents’ consent.
A crime report issued by the Namibian Police on Monday said Kaenjerewandu was at the home of the child’s parents with his mother when the incident occurred.
“The mother went to the toilet and upon her return she discovered that the suspect disappeared and the baby was nowhere to be found,” the report said.
Kaenjerewandu was denied bail on the grounds that giving her bail would not be in the public interest and because investigations are at an early stage.
She is being detained at the Rehoboth Police holding cells.
Public Prosecutor Zibiho Munzenze represented the State in the matter.
