WINDHOEK, 11 NOV (NAMPA) – Coastal-based Namibia Premier League outfit Eleven Arrows collected their first point of the season when they drew one-all against Khomasdal outfit Civics at Windhoek’s Sam Nujoma Stadium on Saturday.
The 2018/19 MTC Namibia Premier League season kicked off on Friday with Tura Magic outclassing their Katutura rival Orlando Pirates 3-1 at the same venue.
In Saturday’s match, Arrows opened the scoring in the 45th minute with a beautiful volley from Anthony Kham to make the score 1-0 at half-time.
Arrows would have gone into the half-time break with a two-goal lead, but Civics goalkeeper Welcome Nail denied Simon Nekongo his first goal of the season from a penalty spot in the 25th minute.
Civics pulled up their socks as they dominated the opening minutes of the second half despite failing to find the back of the net.
With only a minute left in the match before additional time, Civics substitute Juninho Jantze’s brilliant play found Erastus Paulus whose powerful shot was too strong for Arrows goalkeeper, Tinashe Dzambara, to stop.
The match ended one-all and the teams walked away with a point each from their opening match of the season.
In other matches played on Saturday, Black Africa collected three points in Rundu against Julinho Sporting after their 1-0 win, while MTC Namibia Premier League newcomers Young Brazilians beat Blue Waters 1-0 in Karasburg. Another Premier League newcomer, Okahandja United, collected a point from their match against Tigers.
Despite Tigers opening the scoreline as early as the 18th minute, the NPL newcomers levelled the score for a 1-1 draw in Okahandja.
