KEETMANSHOOP, 06 NOV (NAMPA) A 22-year-old man accused of murdering a 28-year-old woman, Engeline Rooi, at a bar here on Saturday, was denied bail in the Keetmanshoop Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
According to a police report, the victim was an ex-girlfriend of the accused, Immanuel Petrus.
He made his first appearance before Magistrate Melissa Mungunda, who denied bail out of fear that he might interfere with the police investigation. She also said the investigations were at an early stage and it is not in the public interest for bail to be granted.
The magistrate postponed the case to 16 January 2019 to allow for further investigations and for the accused to apply for legal aid.
The State was represented by Lewis Chigunwe.
Petrus allegedly stabbed the victim with a sharp object on the neck and arm at a bar in the Tseiblaagte residential area.
Rooi was declared dead upon arrival at the Keetmanshoop State Hospital.
Petrus is remanded in custody at the Keetmanshoop Police holding cells until his next court appearance.
