Shambyu to host SADC 2018 Malaria Awareness Day

RUNDU, 06 NOV (NAMPA) – The Kavango East Region will on Friday host the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) 2018 Malaria Awareness Day.
The commemoration will be held at the Shambyu Traditional Authority Hall in the Kayengona village, the Regional Director in the Ministry of Health and Social Services, Timea Ngwira said in a statement issued on Tuesday.
Ngwira said the commemoration will be presided over by the Minister of Health and Social Services, Bernard Haufiku and that all Ministers of Health from the SADC member countries will attend.
“The aim of Malaria Awareness Day is to highlight the plight of malaria among vulnerable communities and to advocate for support from key decision makers and stakeholders for malaria prevention, control and elimination in the SADC region,” she said.
The event will be held under the theme ‘Strong cross-border collaboration is key to malaria elimination’.
Malaria Elimination 8 (E8) Ambassador, Richard Kamwi and World Health Organisation (WHO) Country Representative, Charles Sagoe-Moses are expected to give remarks.
