WINDHOEK, 05 NOV (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force’s (NamPol) Drug Law Enforcement Division in October seized drugs worth N.dollars 1 976 820 and arrested 126 people in drug-related crimes countrywide.
The figures were contained in a report issued by Head of NamPol’s Public Relations Division, Edwin Kanguatjivi on Monday.
Kanguatjivi said these figures are “way too high” as in the past, similar figures would have been recorded over a year.
“The statistics, which were recorded countrywide, show that drugs are becoming a problem in the country,” he said.
The police seized 39 kilogrammes of cannabis valued at N.dollars 1 950 000; 141 mandrax tablets valued at N.dollars 16 920 and 18.8 grams of cocaine valued at N.dollars 9 400.
Other drugs that were confiscated included four units of crack cocaine valued at N.dollars 4 000 and two straws of crystal meth valued at N.dollars 100.
Kanguatjivi said 115 Namibians, eight Angolans, one Burundian, one Tanzanian and one Zambian national were arrested.
