One dies, two escape death in Walvis Bay

SWAKOPMUND, 04 NOV (NAMPA) – A 25-year-old Namibian man lost his life instantly when the car he was travelling in from Swakopmund, overturned along the Dune 7 road in Walvis Bay on Saturday afternoon.
According to Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu in a crime report issued Sunday, the driver of the vehicle carrying five occupants, lost control of it, causing the car to veer off the road and overturn.
The remaining occupants, who are all in their early twenties, sustained slight injuries, with one obtaining injuries to the head.
The deceased’s identity is known, but cannot be revealed as his next of kin are yet to be informed.
In a separate incident, two drivers in different vehicles narrowly escaped death after their vehicles collided during the early morning hours of Sunday.
It is reported that the 22-year-old driver of one of the vehicles, who was driving without a driver’s licence, collided into the 48-year-old’s sedan on the intersection of Rikumbi Kandanga and 6th Street in Walvis Bay.
Both drivers were admitted at Walvis Bay State Hospital with serious injuries but in stable condition and the driver of the sedan was released later on during the day.
A case of reckless and/or negligent driving has been registered. Driving a motor vehicle without a driver’s licence will also be added against the driver who caused the accident.
Police investigations continue.
