KEETMANSHOOP, 31 OCT (NAMPA) – Former Special Advisor to the Hardap Governor, Alfred Stephanus Dax is the new Special Advisor to the //Kharas Governor following his appointment on 15 October.
Dax was the advisor to the Hardap Governor between July 2015 and July this year.
In an interview with Nampa recently, Dax said he is not new to the region, having worked for many years here with TransNamib prior to Namibia’s independence.
“I am very familiar with this region. I know what the challenges are and what potential it has as I have worked here for long. I have so much knowledge about this region,” he said.
He emphasised that the region has huge potential as it has land and water, which he believes should be utilised to boost the living standards of the inhabitants.
He said the region is one of the richest when it comes to natural resources, but remains one of the poorest.
Along with a familiarisation tour of the region, Dax said he plans to encourage the residents of //Kharas to use agriculture to make a living for themselves and their families.
The special advisor said his big task for the region is a southern rural water irrigation project to promote and support rural communities and households with irrigation schemes for sustainable development and food production to help eliminate poverty, promote food security and advance agronomic economics.
“In that way, we will be able to repatriate the rural people who migrate to urban centres in search of possible jobs and those who have been dumped by the commercial farmers will be repatriated back to rural areas,” he explained.
