SWAKOPMUND, 31 OCT (NAMPA) – A 30-year-old man who was wanted by the police in connection with the rape of a minor, committed suicide by hanging himself at Okatjoto village in the Erongo Region.
A crime report issued by the Namibian Police Force’s Erongo Region Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Tuesday said the man allegedly raped a six-year-old girl, who was related to him, on Sunday.
“He was on the run from the police. His body was discovered by a goat herder around 17h00 on Tuesday,” Iikuyu said.
He reportedly hung himself near his residence.
In an unrelated matter, a 42-year-old man died when the 320 tonne truck he was driving overturned in an open pit at the Swakop Uranium Mine on Tuesday.
Iikuyu said Manfred Gaoseb reportedly lost control over the vehicle, leading to the accident.
He was the only occupant in the truck when the accident occurred around 16h10.
His next of kin have been informed and his body taken to the Walvis Bay mortuary.
