WINDHOEK, 30 OCT (NAMPA) - The suspect in the rape of an eight-year-old girl in Windhoek on Friday, has been arrested.
Namibian Police Force spokesperson, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi in a media statement on Tuesday said the 20-year-old man was arrested in the early morning hours of Tuesday in a shack in the Havana informal settlement with the assistance of the Namibia Central Intelligence Service.
According to NamPol’s weekend crime report, the victim and another child were left in the care of the suspect, who threatened to harm them before one of them ran away.
“The suspect got hold of the victim, threatened her with a knife and tried to rape her but because penetration could not take place, he took a knife, cut her private parts and had sexual intercourse with her,” the police report stated.
He then fled into the mountains behind Otjomuise.
“Intelligence-led information was provided that he was hiding in a shack in Havana,” Shikwambi said.
She added that he has three other pending rape cases and was out on bail.
He will appear in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The victim was admitted to the Windhoek Central Hospital.
