WINDHOEK, 24 OCT (NAMPA) – The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) on Wednesday opened the race for its party leadership positions including that of president, vice president (VP) and secretary general (SG).
The announcement was made by its current SG, Mike Kavekotora at a media briefing on the outcome of the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held over the weekend.
“RDP further resolved that party cadres who are willing to avail themselves to serve the party at higher levels - president, vice president, secretary general and deputy secretary general must be free to do so without fear or favour,” Kavekotora said.
The NEC meeting discussed issues pertaining to the party’s inner party democracy and socio-economic issues affecting Namibians.
Moreover, RDP resolved that branch, district, regional and its women’s wing conferences must be concluded before the end of November 2018.
The conferences are expected to elect delegates to the RDP’s third Ordinary National Congress.
The announcement was followed by a stern warning that intimidation and character assassination of any kind in the race would not be tolerated.
“We wish to caution our members to be vigilant not to be confused and or swayed by those people masquerading as RDP activists who are apparently going around registering our members, possibly with a view to form a new political party or simply to move out of the RDP en masse,” Kavekotora cautioned.
About 700 delegates are expected to attend the convention which will elect RDP’s new leadership for the next five years.
About N.dollars 1.6 million is budgeted for the holding of the elective congress.
