Zamibian truck driver dies while trying safe another Zambian driver

SWAKOPMUND, 24 OCT (NAMPA) – A Zambian truck driver died Tuesday evening while trying to rescue another driver at the Karibib/Omaruru/Okahandja junction.
The accident occurred at around 21h50, according to a crime report issued by Erongo Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu on Wednesday.
It is reported that the now deceased Zambian national, whose identity is not yet known, was in the process of rescuing another Zambian truck driver, whose truck was hanging off the road after he reportedly made a sharp turn towards Omaruru form Karibib.
“In the process, a SUV driving from Karibib towards Okahandja collided with the second truck and bumped the driver of the first truck. He died on the spot,” Iikuyu explained.
Iikuyu added that the second truck driver sustained serious injuries and damage to his truck and a passenger in his truck escaped unharmed.
The two occupants in the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) both sustained injuries - a broken leg for the passenger. They were transported to the Okahandja State Hospital.
The body of the deceased was taken to Omaruru State Hospital's Mortuary.
His next of kin have not yet been informed of his death.
A case of culpable homicide and negligent driving is being investigated against the Chinese national who was driving the SUV.
