REHOBOTH, 23 OCT (NAMPA) – The teenager arrested last month for the alleged murder and rape of 57-year-old Sarah Jagger, made his third appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
The 14-year-old boy, whose name cannot be revealed as he is a minor, appeared before Magistrate Desire Kamboua on counts of rape and murder.
His case was postponed to 20 November for his legal aid application to be finalised and for police investigations to continue.
Officers came across Jagger’s severed foot when they responded to a call for help to put out a fire at a homestead at Farm |Aoxas, some five kilometres south of Bahnhoff.
They followed footprints from the burned homestead and later found the victim’s body nearby. They then followed footprints that led them to the accused.
Prosecutor Victor Mutumbulwa, who appeared for the State, said the possibility of charges of arson and violating a dead body could be added to the two counts the boy faces.
The accused was denied bail due to the possibility of interference in police investigations and because it is not in the public interest to grant bail.
He is being detained at the Rehoboth Police holding cells.
