SWAKOPMUND, 22 OCT (NAMPA) – A 17-year-old boy died after being run over at the car wash where he worked in Swakopmund on Sunday.
The incident occurred around 15h10 in the Mondesa residential area, the Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said in a crime report issued Monday.
The deceased has been identified as Rashid Somseb.
Iikuyu said Somseb was busy directing the driver of a car that had been brought in to be washed when the driver accidentally stepped on the accelerator instead of the brake and hit the teenager.
“He sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Swakopmund State Hospital in critical condition. He passed away while the medical personnel were attending to him,” Iikuyu said.
The body was taken to the Walvis Bay police mortuary for a post-mortem and Somseb’s next of kin were informed of his death.
No arrests have been made, but a case of culpable homicide was opened.
Meanwhile in Walvis Bay’s Kuisebmond residential area, a four-year-old child died after choking on a piece of meat.
The crime report said the food got stuck in Lonia Naloliwa Shihepo’s throat around 21h00 Saturday night. She was rushed to the hospital, where she died around 01h30 on Sunday.
