OTJIWARONGO, 10 DEC (NAMPA) – Four women died on Monday evening after an Iveco bus they were travelling in collided with a truck’s trailer and rolled more than three times between Otavi and Otjiwarongo.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Otjozondjupa Regional Public Relations Officers, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on enquiry Tuesday that the accident happened approximately 70 kilometres outside Otjiwarongo on the B1 road to Otavi at about 22h00.
Three women died on the spot, and the fourth died later at the Otjiwarongo State Hospital.
They are yet to be identified.
The rest of the passengers and the driver were treated for their injuries at the same hospital, but 12 of them were transferred to the Katutura State Hospital in Windhoek with serious injuries on Tuesday morning, said Mbeha.
The truck was on its way to Otjiwarongo from Otavi, and its 34-year-old driver escaped unhurt.
The cause of the side collision is still unknown, and police investigations continue.
