WINDHOEK, 17 OCT (NAMPA) – Coach Ricardo Mannetti, Namibia’s senior national football team coach said he currently has a bunch of players that make him a good coach.
Mannetti said this on Tuesday after his side, the Brave Warriors, beat Mozambique 1-0 in their round four encounter of the 2019 African Cup of Nations (Afcon) qualifier at the Sam Nujoma stadium in Windhoek.
The coach said some of the players that were in isolation over the years have come and joined the team because they want to be part of the Afcon qualification process.
“Now we can safely say we have a complete team with a lot of depth and character and I am just fortunate that these boys make me a good coach not the other way around. They make me a good coach because they want it more than anyone else and that for me is such a pleasure to coach such a bunch of players,” Mannetti said.
The coach added that he cried when Namibia beat Mozambique in Maputo on Sunday but that feeling became much better when they did it at home in front of their home supporters.
He said it will be sweet if Namibia will repeat what they did on Tuesday night when they meet Guinea-Bissau next month, where the winner of the match will qualify for the Afcon finals.
“The fans came here with hope and they left with so much hope after this victory. We have not qualified yet but we started the weekend at the bottom of the group and now we are second and three points away from our ten point’s target that we have set for ourselves,” he added.
The fifth round of the Afcon qualifiers will see Namibia hosting Guinea Bissau, while Mozambique will play Zambia between 12 and 20 November 2018.
The final qualification matches are slated for March 2019, with Namibia playing an away match against Zambia. The group winner and the runner-up will qualify for the 32nd edition of the Afcon finals to be played in Cameroon from 15 June to 13 July 2019.
