Four people die after being struck by lightning

KAHENGE, 09 DEC (NAMPA) – Four people died after being struck by lightning in the Kavango West Region last week.
In the first incident, a couple from the Karukuvisa village - some 160 kilometres (km) south of Rundu - died an excruciating death when the hut they were sleeping in caught fire after being struck by lightning on Wednesday.
The Namibian Police Force (NamPol)’s Crime Investigations’ Coordinator in the Kavango Region, Deputy Commissioner Willie Bampton told Nampa on Sunday that the two deceased persons were burnt beyond recognition and their hut was reduced to ashes.
The couple have been identified as 46-year-old Canca Kampanza and Dana Kampanza, 38.
Another person died on the spot after being struck by lightning at the same village on the same day.
This deceased has been identified as 23-year-old Katiti Ncame, who lived at Karukuvisa.
Ncame’s next of kin have been informed.
Last Thursday, a 16-year-old boy died on the spot after he was struck by lightning while riding a bicycle at the Sikarosompo village.
That village is situated some 140km west of Rundu.
The deceased has been identified as Erastus Hamutenya, a resident of Sikarosompo, and his next of kin have also been informed.
