OSHAKATI, 08 DEC (NAMPA) – Oshakati Mayor Onesmus Shilunga has encouraged employees of the town council to take their health seriously, including by seeking psychosocial support for HIV and other health issues.
Shilunga said this while speaking at the belated commemoration of World Aids Day by the Oshakati community on Friday.
World Aids Day is observed on 01 December every year.
He said Oshakati Town Council employees will increase their level of efficiency, competence and the effectiveness of service delivery to the town’s community if they are in good health.
“Equally, I am appealing to all residents of Oshakati to ensure that their health status is up to standard by consulting health professionals when necessary,” Shilunga stated.
He also called on members of his community who might be experiencing health problems not to wait until the last minute, when the immune system becomes unable to respond effectively to medication, before seeking treatment.
Oshakati’s World Aids Day commemoration started with a street march led by members of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) and Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
