Memorial service for Leevi to be held on Friday

RUNDU, 11 OCT (NAMPA) – A memorial service for former Rundu Mayor Hilka Leevi will be held here on Friday.
Leevi died aged 66 last week Friday at the Rundu State Hospital after being hospitalised for two weeks.
The Governor of the Kavango East Region, Samuel Mbambo told Nampa on Thursday, the memorial service will be held at the late former mayor’s house in the Tutungeni residential area.
It is expected to start at 15h00.
The funeral for Leevi will be held on Saturday and she will be buried at Mupini in the Kavango West Region.
Meanwhile, Mbambo informed this agency that the committee under Veterans Affairs in the Office of the Vice-President sat today and decided to accord Leevi a war veteran’s funeral.
She was wheelchair-bound after she was injured in Cassinga in Angola before independence.
She was a member of the local authority of Rundu on the Swapo Party ticket for 10 years from 2005 as an ordinary member of the council, and she later served as mayor from 2010 to 2015.
Leevi leaves behind four children.
