WINDHOEK, 10 OCT (NAMPA) – Telecom Namibia has suspended three senior executives pending an investigation into a fake N.dollars 12 million contract with Canocopy Pty Limited.
The company announced in a media statement issued on Wednesday that the three senior employees were served with precautionary suspensions.
They are Chief Financial Officer, Robert Offner who was suspended on 26 September 2018; Head of Internal Audit and Risk Management, Ben van der Merwe; and Head of Corporate Governance, Legal Services and Regulatory Affairs, Jinah Buys who were both suspended on Tuesday.
A local daily newspaper reported in September 2018 that Telecom Namibia made 16 monthly payments towards a N.dollars 12 million contract, signed in 2013, which turned out to be fake.
Acting Chief Executive Officer, Armando Perny said due to the seriousness of the investigation and in keeping with the company’s disciplinary code, the company had no other choice but to put the executives under immediate suspension.
“Their suspension however does not constitute disciplinary action and does not imply any assumptions of guilt or misconduct by the suspended senior executives,” he stated.
He added that Telecom Namibia had a duty to investigate any allegation against any employee which is brought to the attention of the executive management through an appropriate process, which had to be perused in consultation with the Board of Directors.
“This will be done fairly, without favour or prejudice. Furthermore, the company will ensure that the correct procedures will be implemented to manage this matter in a fair manner,” he said.
