SWAKOPMUND, 10 OCT (NAMPA) – A toddler drowned in a bucket of water after he was allegedly left home alone by his mother at Swakopmund on Tuesday.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigation coordinator for Erongo, Deputy Commissioner Erastus Iikuyu said in a police report the incident occurred around 11h00 in the Mondesa residential area.
The statement said Jorsy Nathan Jacques Hailonda, aged one year and four months old, reportedly drowned in a 25 litre bucket of water used to wash clothes.
It is alleged that Hailonda and another toddler of around the same age were left home alone by their mothers who went to a nearby shop when the incident occurred.
“The deceased had already passed away upon the return of the mothers and the surviving infant was in tears,” Iikuyu added.
Hailonda’s body was taken to the Walvis Bay Police Mortuary for a post-mortem.
Meanwhile, the same report said a 33-year-old man was found hanging from the roof of his bedroom at the Usab Residential area in Karibib on Monday.
He reportedly hanged himself with a sheet.
The body of the deceased, Olavi Kagamenwa Natangwe Iiyambo, was discovered around 16h50 by colleagues who decided to go looking for him after his phone went unanswered all day.
No suicide note was left behind and Iiyambo’s next of kin have been informed.
Police investigations continue for both incidents.
