WINDHOEK, 01 OCT (NAMPA) - Namibians should take the path of true patriotism, brotherhood and sisterhood during the second National Land Conference, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia, Bishop Shekutaamba Nambala has said.
Addressing a packed conference venue at a local hotel here Monday, Nambala urged Namibians to control their emotions and pursue a course of true nationalism and nationhood.
He noted that Namibia is closely watched by the world as to how it will handle and deal with the land issue during the conference.
“This conference is putting Namibians on a crucial test of deeper understanding of the land,” he said.
Nambala emphasised that the conference will pave the way to amicable solutions for the future of the country.
“I am confident that if we Namibians are serious with ourselves, our children and grandchildren’s future land issues will be paved during the conference,” he noted.
Issues to be discussed during the five-day conference include ancestral land rights; willing-seller willing-buyer principle for land acquisition; the national resettlement programme and resettlement criteria.
Over 800 delegates are attending the conference under the theme ‘Towards a comprehensive and sustainable land reform in Namibia’.
It ends Friday.
