OTJIWARONGO, 27 SEP (NAMPA) – A man who allegedly attacked another man with a wooden pole at Otjituuo months ago, now faces a murder charge after the victim succumbed to his injuries at the Grootfontein State Hospital on Tuesday.
It is alleged that on 11 June 2018, the accused Hitjitevi Kapapa (age not provided) attacked Muzambande Hiriuanga, 24, with a pole at Ozongombo village near Otjituuo during a fight.
The victim sustained serious head injuries in the incident and was taken to the Grootfontein State Hospital shortly after and later transferred to the Katutura Intermediate Hospital in critical condition.
On 19 September 2018, Hiriuanga was referred back to the Grootfontein hospital from Windhoek, still in poor condition, where he died.
Namibian Police Force Otjozondjupa regional spokesperson, Warrant Officer Maureen told Nampa on Thursday the accused in the matter was arrested in June shortly after the alleged attack on the deceased.
“Kapapa then appeared in court at Grootfontein on a charge of attempted murder where he was remanded in custody. Since Hiriuanga is now deceased, the accused faces a new charge of murder,” said Mbeha.
Kapapa will return to the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on 03 October 2018.
