Eleven motorists arrested for drinking and driving at Otjiwarongo

OTJIWARONGO, 24 SEP (NAMPA) – Eleven motorists on Monday appeared in the Otjiwarongo Magistrate’s Court after they were arrested over the weekend on charges of drinking and driving on public roads.
The accused, Bennedictus Narib, 42; Petrus Kakoma, 32; Johannes Shikundiko, 45; Abraham Urirab, 53; Given Kusiro, 31; and Fanuel Iipumbu, 33, all pleaded guilty to the charges.
They were joined by Paulus Samaria, 37; Penda Angula, 29; Usko Haikali, 47; Richard Mukendwa, 32; and Herold Gawaseb, 38, who also pleaded guilty in court.
Another motorist, 45-year-old Ndapandula Shilongo was arrested over the weekend for operating a vehicle that carried a wrong license disk and also appeared in the same court along with the 11 accused.
Otjiwarongo Magistrate, Eduard Kesslau on the bench in consultation with prosecutor, Anna Amukugo agreed that the 12 accused should be freed by paying a fine of N.dollars 4 000 each.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha warned motorists to avoid drinking and driving as police traffic officers in the region will not tolerate any traffic offender who puts the lives of others at risk.
