WINDHOEK, 17 SEP (NAMPA) – Brave Gladiators crashed out of the 2018 Council of Southern African Football Association (Cosafa) Women’s Championships on Monday, despite beating Swaziland by a 4-1 scoreline in their final group match.
In a match monitored online via the Cosafa Twitter account on Monday afternoon, the Brave Gladiators fell behind to a Celiwe Nkambule goal in the fifth minute.
Ndapewa Katuta then equalised for Namibia in the seventh minute before Kylie van Wyk added a second for the Gladiators in the 34th minute.
Lovisa Mulunga then put Namibia further ahead with a goal in the 42nd minute to take Namibia into the halftime break with a 3-1 lead.
Namibia further added another goal from Katuta who scored her second of the match in the 90th minute.
The victory did not help Namibia’s cause as Zimbabwe were beaten by Uganda 2-1, a result which saw Uganda finishing top of the group with seven points.
They were followed by Zimbabwe, who can still qualify as the best-placed third team in the group stages, after they recorded six points.
Namibia registered four points and Swaziland failed to record a single point.
Namibia bowed out of the competition from the group stages for the second consecutive year.
