Two die in separate accidents at the coast

SWAKOPMUND, 16 SEP (NAMPA) – A 61-year-old cyclist succumbed to his injuries on Friday after he collided with a pick-up in Walvis Bay.
A police report issued by Chief Inspector Daniel Gurirab of the Namibian Police Force in the Erongo Region on Sunday said the accident occurred at the corner of Hidipo Hamutenya Drive and Green Valley Street around 14h45.
It is alleged that the driver of the pick-up presumed that the cyclist was turning in the opposite direction, when he was not, leading to the incident.
The deceased, identified as Moses Nghipande Paulus, was taken to the Walvis Bay State Hospital where he died at about 19h00 on the same day.
His next of kin have been informed.
A case of culpable homicide and negligent driving is being investigated.
In a separate incident, a 30-year-old man, Christiaan Harmse died at the Mediclinic Cottage Private Hospital at Swakopmund on Sunday after he fell off his motorcycle.
According to the police, the deceased lost control of his motorcycle on the Swakopmund/Walvis Bay C28 road, which veered off the road and overturned just outside Swakopmund.
The deceased reportedly sustained head injuries, which led to his death.
His body was taken to the Walvis Bay Police morgue for a post-mortem.
