OSHAKATI, 16 SEP (NAMPA) Daweb Junior Secondary School from the Hardap Region and Oshaaluwata Combined School (CS) from Omusati Region were on Saturday crowned the champions of the 2018 Metropolitan/Swabou Summer Cup.
This follows the competitions interregional finals held at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on Friday and Saturday.
Daweb handed Karibib Junior Secondary School from the Erongo Region a 3-2 defeat on penalties, following a one-all stalemate during normal time in the football final of the tournament held Saturday night, while Oshaaluwata defeated Ndiyona CS from the Kavango East Region by a 19-16 scoreline.
Commitment and discipline on the part of the players, as well as cooperation amongst members of the coaching team, made us successful, said Dawebs coach, Philips Kamwi, who spoke to the media during the awards ceremony.
As the champions, these two school teams each scooped N.dollars 15 000, a floating trophy and gold medals.
The boys from Nyangana CS from Kavango East were the third in the football tournament, after overpowering Adam Steve CS from //Kharas with an 8-1 scoreline in the third place playoff match.
Karibib received a second prize of N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals, Nyangana took home N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals for their efforts, while Adam Steve received N.dollars 4 000.
Ndiyona, as the runners-up in the netball contest, took home N.dollars 9 000 and silver medals, while the girls from Oshekasheka CS in the Oshana Region, who finished the tournament in third position, received N.dollars 6 000 and bronze medals.
Lordville CS from //Kharas got N.dollars 4 000 for their fourth-placed finish.
The Metropolitan/Swabou Life Insurance Company this year committed N.dollars 450 000 towards the prizes and organisation of the tournament.
