WINDHOEK, 13 SEP (NAMPA) Robert Nauseb, African Stars coach says he will use the one-day pre-season tournament aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Association of Namibia (CAN) to assess his team.
Four Namibia Premier League (NPL) clubs will on Saturday compete in a one-day tournament organised by the University of Namibia (UNAM) Football Club.
The matches will kick off Saturday morning at the UNAM Sports Field with the host taking on African Stars at 09h00, while Mighty Gunners will play Black Africa at 11h00.
The winners of those opening matches will then meet each other in the final at 16h00, while the losers will meet earlier at 14h30.
Speaking to Nampa on Thursday, Nauseb said he has worked with his team for three weeks and they are ready to compete at the pre-season tournament on Saturday.
I am happy with the way the team has trained with assistant coach Andrew (Tjahikika) before I joined them and competing in this tournament will give me a chance to show the players what type of philosophy we will be working on and what I expect from them before the start of the NPL season, he said.
Nauseb added that testing the players fitness will be one of the main goals at this pre-season tourney.
The previous coach played a different style of football and I will also have a completely different style of football, thats why its important for the players to understand what I expect from them.
It will also be important for me to learn the strengths as well as weaknesses of the players which will help me when playing them in the future, Nauseb said.
The former national senior football team player told this agency that he has settled in well with his new team and he is looking forward to implementing his two-year project.
The pre-season tournament will further be used by the four teams to assess the type of improvements they need to make ahead of the 2018/19 NPL season.
The 2018/19 season is scheduled to kick off on 15 October 2018.
