REHOBOTH, 12 SEP (NAMPA) – A 37-year-old man allegedly killed his ex-girlfriend by hitting her over the head with a brick before committing suicide by hanging himself on a farm in the Gibeon District on Tuesday.
The Namibian Police Force’s Hardap crime investigations coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Wednesday the incident occurred between 10h00 and 11h00 at Farm Rosenhoff.
The deceased were identified as Anna Swartbooi, 29, and Francis Thimo Karigub, 37.
It is suspected that Karigub hit Swartbooi over the head with the brick several times and she died on the spot. The incident happened at the victim’s house where she lived alone.
“Approximately 100 metres from the crime scene, the body of a male person was found hanging from a tree. He was identified as the ex-boyfriend of the victim,” Clay said.
He further said the police were informed that Karigub called a woman in Mariental, informing her that he killed Swartbooi and was going to hang himself. The woman alerted people on the farm, who made the gruesome discovery.
At this stage it is not known what led to the deaths as no note was found on the scene.
The next of kin of the deceased have been notified and police investigations continue.
