REHOBOTH, 04 SEP (NAMPA) - A man arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his 12-year-old stepdaughter in Rehoboth’s Block E residential area on Tuesday made his second appearance in the Rehoboth Magistrate’s Court.
Ricardo Witbeen, 31, appeared in front of Magistrate Desire Kamboua on a charge of rape, when his case was postponed to 25 September for finalisation of his legal aid application.
It is alleged that Witbeen raped the 12-year-old and threatened to strangle and kill her. The suspect allegedly fell asleep after the incident and the victim fled from the scene and informed her aunt, who then reported the matter to the police.
The accused was again denied bail because of the serious nature of the case and as granting of bail at this stage would not be in the public interest, but was informed of his right to apply for bail through a formal application. The investigation into the matter is also at an early stage.
Witbeen indicated he applied for legal aid.
Public Prosecutor Zibiho Hillia Munzenze appeared for the State.
The accused is being held at the Rehoboth Police Station holding cells.
