Soldier arrested with cocaine and mandrax

OTJIWARONGO, 03 SEP (NAMPA) – A member of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF) was on Sunday morning arrested at Grootfontein for possession of cocaine and mandrax tablets valued at over N.dollars 15 000.
The 39-year-old soldier, a captain, works for the 21 Motorised Infantry Brigade in Windhoek, but was arrested at Luiperdsheuwel residential area in Grootfontein around 00h05 by the police.
Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Monday said the male soldier was found with 64 pieces of cocaine, and 45 tablets of mandrax.
A cash amount of N.dollars 1 537 was also found on him.
“We are still trying to establish the exact origin of these drugs,” Mbeha said.
The suspect is expected to appear in the Grootfontein Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
Police investigations continue.
