OTJIWARONGO, 04 DEC (NAMPA) – A 59-year-old cattle herder was allegedly mauled to death by a Simbra bull on Monday at the Otjiwarongo Agra auction pens.
Otjozondjupa Regional Police Public Relations’ Officer, Sergeant Maureen Mbeha told Nampa on Wednesday that the deceased had been identified as Ipandhi Nkadi, also nicknamed ‘Ou Jan’.
He was an employee of the Agra Limited Livestock Division in Otjiwarongo.
Nkadi’s family have been informed.
Mbeha said the incident happened just after Nkadi and other cattle herders finished feeding the six-year-old Simbra bull at about 19h00.
The deceased and the other herders had climbed into the kraal where the bull was being kept to drive it onto a waiting truck for transport to neighbouring Angola.
“The bull turned aggressive, and attacked Nkadi,” Mbeha explained, adding that the bull repeatedly crushed him with its head against the kraal bars until Nkadi fell to the ground.
He was rushed to the Otjiwarongo Medi-Clinic on Monday, but was declared dead upon arrival there.
The bull was transported to Angola on that same evening by Agra, the spokesperson noted.
The Otjiwarongo police are still investigating the case under Inquest Docket No. 10/2013.
