WINDHOEK, 30 AUG (NAMPA) – The Ministry of Education, Arts and Culture (MoEAC) has approved over 2 000 teaching vacancies for 2019, which will be published in different local newspapers as from 31 August until 07 September.
A media release issued by MoEAC indicate that a total of 2 112 posts will be advertised in the annual Teaching Vacancy Bulletin for 2019, of which 66 are for principals, 195 for Heads of Department (HoDs) and 1 851 for teachers.
It stated that posts for school principals and HODs which are currently vacant but have been already advertised will not be included in the bulletin.
“These posts have been identified as critical and hence need to be filled in order for the teaching and learning process not to be compromised,” it said.
The teaching vacancies for 2019 are 441 less than the 2 292 advertised in 2018. HOD vacant positions have decreased from 198 in 2018 while that of principal have decreased from 79.
The ministry emphasised that issues of overstaffing and understaffing, current studying and employed teachers with ministerial five-year contracts have been considered and addressed before this latest compilation.
The contracts of teaching posts currently occupied by temporary teachers will end in December 2018, thus rendering the posts vacant, while HoDs and principals are occupied through acting, it noted.
A number of student teachers countrywide demonstrated and petitioned the ministry against the delay in the release of teaching positions late last year.
