Police intensify patrols in Kavango regions this festive season

RUNDU, 04 DEC (NAMPA) - The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango East and Kavango West regions have intensified their festive season operations by conducting foot patrols with members of the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
A total of 35 NDF members have been dispatched into the streets to assist the police in conducting patrols in the two regions.
NamPol’s festive season operations started in the two Kavango regions last week, and the uniformed members are visible all over.
The Police Chief Inspector for Operations in the two regions, Sam !Nawaseb told Nampa on Wednesday that law-enforcement officers will also concentrate on the enforcement of the Liquor Act to ensure that shebeen owners adhere to the rules and regulations of the Act.
He this cautioned shebeen owners operating illegally as well as those who operate beyond the stipulated hours that they will face the full wrath of the law.
!Nawaseb indicated that the police intends to set up a fourth roadblock in the Mpungu village, situated some 160km west of Rundu, in addition to the three existing roadblocks at the Kahenge, Ndiyona and Masivi areas.
The police traffic division will further set up mobile roadblocks at any place unannounced in order to curb driving under the influence of alcohol, as well as check for unroadworthy vehicles.
