Khomas ready to defend Debmarine Netball Championships

WINDHOEK, 28 AUG (NAMPA) – Khomas Region netball team manager Jeanene Smith said her team is ready to defend the Debmarine Namibia senior regional Netball Championships trophy which it won in its maiden edition in 2017.
The second edition of the Senior Regional Netball Championships is set for the Erongo Region at the Tamariskia Sport Field in Swakopmund from 31 August to 01 September 2018.
Speaking to Nampa during the team's first training session on Monday, Smith said that as the defending champions, they know what is at stake when they travel to Swakopmund for the competition.
“Both our teams are quite ready for the championships and we are ready for all the other 13 regions who will be coming for us with the aim of taking the trophy away from us,” she ensured.
She noted that their biggest competitor at this year’s championship will be the host region Erongo, whom they beat in the final a year ago in Windhoek with a 41-29 scoreline.
Smith told this agency that the Khomas region have a male and a female team that will compete at this year's championships.
“We are happy with the crop of players they have selected to represent the region this year. At the moment, they are training well and understanding each other. The coaching staff and management are confident of the team winning this trophy again.
“All we will have to do is play well against other regions and then beat Erongo who I believe we will meet again because they are our biggest competitors at this competition,” the team manager expressed.
This year’s senior regional netball championships will have men’s netball teams competing in curtain raiser matches with only five regions having confirmed their men’s netball squads' participation thus far.
The winners of the women's championships will walk away with N.dollars 30 000 and gold medals, while the runners-up will take home N.dollars 15 000 and silver medals while third-place finishers get N.dollars 9 000 and bronze medals.
