WINDHOEK, 27 AUG (NAMPA) – The second edition of the Debmarine Namibia Senior Regional Netball Championships is set for the Erongo Region at the Tamariskia Sport Field in Swakopmund from 31 August to 01 September 2018.
The championships sponsored by Debmarine Namibia was launched in 2017 in Windhoek, where the Khomas Region won it with a 41-29 score line against Erongo.
Rebekka /Goagoses, Netball Namibia vice-president, told Nampa on Monday that this year’s event is being taken to the coastal town of Swakopmund as they want to show that netball is not only played in Khomas.
“We are excited along with the host regional executive of Erongo under the leadership of Juanitha Witbeen. Swakopmund, in particular the Tamariskia Sport Field will be busting out of its nuts with exciting netball of all 14 regions this coming weekend,” she said.
/Goagoses, who is also responsible for marketing, sponsorship, public relations and competition at Netball Namibia, said during the second edition of the championship, they will not call up any national team players to represent their regions in the tournament.
“An opportunity has been created and we are still pleading with the regions to look at raw talent, skills which need to be nurtured for the future. We are not calling up players who are already in the national team structures; we want to give opportunities to other players to be discovered at these games,” said /Goagoses.
She stated that men’s netball teams will also be in action in a curtain raiser match.
The winners of the championships will walk away with N.dollars 30 000 and gold medals. Runners-up will take home N.dollars 15 000 and silver medals while third-place finishers get N.dollars 9 000 and bronze medals.
