WINDHOEK, 22 AUG (NAMPA) – Organisers say everything is in place for the hosting of a horse racing competition by the Okahandja Racing Club on Saturday.
One of the organisers, Manes Hendriks told Nampa on Wednesday the club has set aside N.dollars 100 000 for the competition and about 120 horses have been registered.
He said most seasonal horses like Mai Thaiga, Starlile, Professor, Queen of Shadow, Von Trotha, Canigao, Mbapeua, Suide Maak Vrede, Okatenda, Katjutju, Black Mountain, Prince de Lago and Stebbins, amongst others, have been registered.
“This will be one of the biggest racing competitions in the country and the number of horses speaks volumes,” said Hendriks.
He added that all horses will be scanned for microchips to verify their names and doctors will be available at the event to monitor their condition.
Some of the horse owners Nampa spoke to also said they are ready for the event.
Eamon Freygang said he will be taking five horses to the competition and wants to make his mark in Okahandja.
“The opponents should watch out for King Kittens, Storm In A Tea Cup, Surreptitious and the newcomer, Bohnia,” he said.
Iritjiua Murangi, who lost one of his horses, Councillor, prior to the July handicap in Okandjatu, said his other horse, Katjutju, will compete in Okahandja.
“I don’t want to pressure my horse at this event, but the horse is in very good condition and ready to deliver,” said Murangi.
He said the event will serve as preparation for the Okakarara Trade Fair competition scheduled for 08 September 2018.
The Okahandja Racing Club was established in April this year to promote horse racing.
Tickets will be sold for N.dollars 50 at the gate.
