REHOBOTH, 22 AUG (NAMPA) – The Otjozondjupa Region’s Under-17 Skorpion Zinc Cup team have vowed to win the regional youth tournament scheduled to take place in Grootfontein from Thursday until Sunday.
Otjozondjupa coach, Victor Shandjuuka on Wednesday said their preparations have been good so far and he sees no reason why they cannot win the cup.
“We still have the bulk of the team that participated in last year’s edition in the Erongo Region and we have added a few new players to bolster the squad. We are going to Grootfontein to win the tournament and we really mean business this time around,” he warned.
He said the experienced players will step up and help the region in realising their goal of winning the tournament.
“We want to send out a statement of intent that when it comes to youth football, we want to be up there. Now is as good a time as any to win the cup for the inhabitants of the region,” said Shandjuuka, who will be assisted by Mark Mucke in the coaching duties.
Otjozondjupa is drawn in Group A alongside Hardap, Oshana, Kavango East and Kunene, with action starting on Friday at 09h00 at the Omulunga Stadium.
Group B consists of Kavango West, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Omaheke and Erongo.
Omusati Region, the three-time winners of the competition, who will once again be defending their title this year, have been drawn in Group C together with Khomas, Zambezi and ||Kharas.
