Katima Mulilo official arrested for alleged corruption

KATIMA MULILO, 19 AUG (NAMPA) – A senior official of the Katima Mulilo Town Council was arrested on Sunday on allegations of corruption, the Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Zambezi Region, Evans Simasiku said.
He told Nampa that the official, who cannot be named as he is yet to appear in court, was arrested at the Mpacha Airport on his arrival from Windhoek Sunday afternoon.
The town official was arrested on allegations of corruption related to the awarding of tenders to a local Chinese businessman, who is said to have been awarded a number of tenders by the town council.
The suspect was taken to the Ngoma Police Station in Katima Rural and was expected to appear in the Katima Mulilo Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday after the finalisation of charges on Monday, according to Simasiku.
