OTJIWARONGO, 17 AUG (NAMPA) - A 33-year-old man died instantly when a pick-up drove over him while he was lying on the road at Okondjatu in the Okakarara Constituency in the early hours of Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Edward Ihapa Kaaheke from Okahitanda village in the Okondjatu area.
His next of kin have been informed.
Namibian Police Force’s spokesperson in the Otjozondjupa Region, Warrant Officer Maureen Mbeha on Friday told Nampa the pick-up pulling a trailer was headed to Grootfontein when it drove over Kaaheke around 03h40.
People who witnessed the incident told the police he was lying on the new B14 road between Grootfontein and Gobabis.
“The police are still looking for the driver of the pick-up, who did not stop,” Mbeha said.
She called on anyone with information that could lead to the arrest of the driver to contact the nearest police station.
Mbeha also cautioned residents to be careful when crossing or walking next to the new road, saying this is the second case of culpable homicide at Okondjatu within a month.
Police investigations in the matter continue.
