REHOBOTH, 16 AUG (NAMPA) – A 13-month-old girl died after accidentally being driven over at a car wash in Rehoboth on Wednesday.
The Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Thursday the accident occurred around 17h00 in Block B.
The deceased has been identified as Eldine Claasen.
“It is alleged that the driver of a Chevrolet utility pick-up visited the car wash to pick up a box of meat that was dropped off for her there. While she was busy loading the box, the daughter of one of the employees at the car wash crawled under the vehicle unobserved,” he said.
The woman then drove off, unaware of the girl under the car, but was stopped before exiting the gate.
Claasen was rushed to St Mary's Hospital but was declared dead upon arrival.
The police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
