REHOBOTH, 15 AUG (NAMPA) – The University of Namibia Neudamm Campus outside Windhoek will be a hive of activity when teams from surrounding areas vie for the ‘Neudamm Soccer Bonanza’ floating trophy next weekend.
The tournament amount is N.dollars 30 000 and is co-sponsored by Bruckaros Trading and Ancon Investments and will take place at the Neudamm sports field from 25 to 27 August.
Managing Director of Bruckaros Trading, Smart Isaacks told Nampa on Tuesday the tournament aims to promote grassroots football and is part of their social responsibility.
“The tournament is in its second year and this year we decided to come on board and assist the local organisers in hosting a memorable tournament for the players that only dream of playing for big teams,” he explained.
According to Isaacks, the event attracted 14 teams last year, with the final match between Deon Eleven from Groot Aub and Neudamm United not having been completed due to technical problems with the floodlights.
“The teams shared the price money because of the malfunctioning lights, but we promise that this year the event will be bigger and better,” he remarked.
The registration fee per team is N.dollars 1 500 and the winner will walk away with N.dollars 15 000, a floating trophy and 18 gold medals, while the losing finalist will pocket N.dollars 7 000 and 18 silver medals.
The semi-final losers will each receive N.dollars 3 000 and the top goalscorer and best goalkeeper will each walk away with N.dollars 500.
The tournament is open to all teams, except Namibia Premier League teams, however, two premier league players are allowed per team.
The draw will be conducted at Goreangab Junior Secondary School in Katutura, Windhoek on 22 August 2018 where interested teams will indicate and confirm their participation with a 50 per cent deposit.
