Skorpion Zinc U-17 trophy tour starts in Rosh Pinah

REHOBOTH, 15 AUG (NAMPA) – The fourth edition of the Under-17 Skorpion Zinc Cup trophy tour under the leadership of the cup ambassador Johannes Congo Hindjou kicked-off at Rosh Pinah in the ||Kharas Region.
The annual competition’s fifth edition is slated for Grootfontein during the weekend of 24-27 August.
In a media statement availed to Nampa on Tuesday, Hindjou at the start of the tour at Tsau-||Khaeb Secondary School in Rosh Pinah lauded Skorpion Zinc and the local organising committee for the idea of starting the cup, and called on locals to support such events by turning up in huge numbers and rallying behind their favourite region.
“This competition is very dear to my heart; it gives young boys the opportunity to showcase their football skills at such a tender age, many of the players who play in these youth competitions tend to make it to the national team level and reaching great heights,” he explained.
Hindjou said because of the youth tournament, Namibia has the likes of Prins Tjiueza, a young talented player who was the top goal scorer at the recently concluded Council of Southern Africa Football Associations U-17 Championship and who played in last year’s edition of the cup.
While reminding the youth on the importance of education, Hindjou warned them about the social ills of alcohol and drug abuse.
“Education is all you are left with when your legs can no longer carry you or kick balls. As much as you love football, love school 10 times more. Education has the ability to transform you into a better person, to provide for all your needs and take you places,” he advised.
Omusati defeated Erongo in the final of the 2017 Scorpion Zinc U-17 Cup while Kavango West took third place ahead of Kavango East.
The draw for this year’s tournament is as follows:
Group A: Kavango East, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Oshana and Kunene.
Group B: Kavango West, Oshikoto, Ohangwena, Omaheke and Erongo.
Group C: ||Kharas, Omusati, Khomas and Zambezi.
