REHOBOTH, 14 AUG (NAMPA) – A 6-year-old boy died on Monday after the driver of a Nissan hardbody allegedly accidentally drove over his head in Stampriet.
The incident was reported to the police around 14h50 on Monday, the Namibian Police Force’s crime investigations coordinator for the Hardap Region, Deputy Commissioner Eric Clay told Nampa on Tuesday.
The victim was identified as Leanardo Geibeb and his next of kin are informed of his death.
It is alleged that the boy and other children were playing soccer at the Stampriet Multi-Purpose Centre, next to a tyre fixing area, where the driver of the white pick-up came to pump the tyres of his vehicle.
“We understand that the boy was lying approximately 10 to 15 meters from the vehicle and after a while when the driver was done, he drove the vehicle and unexpectedly drove over the head of the boy, killing him on the spot,” Clay said.
The 53-year-old driver was not arrested, but the police are investigating a case of culpable homicide.
