NamPol Kavango East senior police officer dies

RUNDU, 07 AUG (NAMPA) – The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) has announced the sudden death of one of its senior commanders, Deputy Commissioner Paulinus Uukango Nekundi, who died last Friday.
NamPol’s Public Relations Officer, Chief Inspector Kauna Shikwambi in a statement on Tuesday said Nekundi died on 03 August 2018 at his residence in Tutungeni in Rundu in the Kavango East Region.
He was 56 years old.
Shikwambi said the late Nekundi joined NamPol on 01 July 2000 when he was redeployed from the Namibian Defence Force (NDF).
She said Nekundi started his policing duties as an Inspector at the Khomas Police Regional Headquarters where he headed the Signal (Radio and Communication) Unit.
In 2004, he was then transferred to the Signal Unit at the Police Regional Headquarters in Rundu.
He was then promoted to the rank of Chief Inspector and appointed as the head of the Special Field Force in the Kavango East Region.
“The late Nekundi’s determination and zeal in the execution of his policing duties earned him another promotion on 01 June 2018 when he was promoted to the rank of Deputy Commissioner while he was still the head of the Special Field Force in Kavango East, a position and rank he held until his untimely departure,” said Shikwambi.
The late officer is survived by 19 children, five siblings and grandchildren.
A memorial service for Nekundi will be held on Wednesday at the Kavango East Regional Council Auditorium at 14h00, while on Friday, another memorial service will be held at his home village, Oshikushashipya in the Etayi Constituency in the Omusati Region at 14h00, where he will be buried on Saturday.
