WINDHOEK, 01 AUG (NAMPA) – The Southern African Development Community’s (SADC) third Industrialisation Week, which started here on Monday, was concluded on Wednesday.
In her closing remarks, Deputy Minister of Industrialisation, Trade and SME Development, Lucia Iipumbu said the outcome of the event must motivate member states’ commitments in the infrastructure master plan and the 2015 youth declaration, thereby necessitating the need for an action plan.
“It is my sincere hope that these declarations are conserved and adopted at the forthcoming SADC Council of Ministers,” she said.
Iipumbu expressed hope that the private sector contributed and was involved in the three-day discussions to ensure their voice is heard, as the platform was created for them. She also noted that the declarations from the dialogue will be submitted to the SADC summit.
“I am quite content to have observed that the declarations coming from the dialogue are robust in the sense that they provide targets that must be observed if we have to ensure the interface of infrastructure development, youth empowerment and sustainable development,” she added.
In March 2016, the SADC Council of Ministers agreed that the Industrialisation Week be held annually as a regional public-private engagement platform aimed at fostering new opportunities for intra-regional trade and investment.
The event also aims to create a regional platform for building partnerships and for growth of regional businesses and facilitates advocacy on the need to improve the business environment for a competitive manufacturing sector in SADC.
Over 130 manufacturers and exhibitors from the SADC region exhibited their products and services during the event and over 450 delegates from various representatives of the member states, the European Union, private sector representatives and small and medium enterprises were in attendance.
The 38th Ordinary SADC Summit will take place in Windhoek on 18 and 19 August.
