WINDHOEK, 01 AUG (NAMPA) –Environmental Commissioner in the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), Theofilus Nghitila has been appointed as the ministry’s Acting Permanent Secretary (PS).
According to an appointment letter availed on Wednesday by the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, Romeo Muyanda, Nghitila’s appointment comes into effect from 01 August 2018 for a period of six months until the post is filled.
Nghitila takes over the position from Malan Lindeque, who retired.
At a farewell function held on Monday for Lindeque, MET Minister, Pohamba Shifeta described him as a wealth of knowledge that the ministry was losing.
Lindeque became the ministry’s PS in 2003 and served until 2007 and was reappointed in 2014 until his retirement.
Shifeta said Lindeque is a passionate conservationist who went through the ranks of the ministry since starting his career as an ordinary animal ecologist in the Etosha National Park in the 1980s.
“As civil servant, we should emulate from his dedication, perseverance, hardwork and exceptional leadership skills that took him from a ranger all the way to Permanent Secretary,” Shifeta said.
