Mariental police officer granted bail in girlfriend assault case

REHOBOTH, 31 JUL (NAMPA) – The police officer arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend at the Mariental State Hospital nurses’ home, made his second appearance in the Mariental Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.
Samuel Jantze appeared before Magistrate Verinao Kamahene on a charge of assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, read with the provisions of the Domestic Violence Act, and was released on bail of N.dollars 1 000.
It is alleged that Jantze, a constable at the Mariental Police Station, Saturday night assaulted Eva Kisting, who is eight months pregnant, at the nurses’ home.
He allegedly assaulted Kisting using his fists and belt and damaged property near her room.
The case was postponed to 20 September for the accused to finalise his Legal Aid application and for police investigations to continue.
He represented himself during the bail hearing.
Public Prosecutor Reinhard Jacobs represented the State.
